Today we (the computer public), found out that Microsoft's Windows Genuine Advantage validation tool, talks to your computer every day! This activity has not been disclosed by MS and is so covert, routine inspection of firewall logs to date, by many very capable people, has not exposed the activity. Very clever MS.

GROKLAW has an article illuminating the issue and some (corp speak) comments by MS, attempting to smooth this over. Didn't make me feel any better. Starting to look like giving up some neat games and a few Amateur Radio programs will be worth the peace of mind I would get from building a FreeBSD workstation over this XP box.
