The fall of 95 I set up my old Classic
C8 that I have been lugging around for more years than I care to admit.
My wife Patty really enjoys astronomical
observing. Several observing sessions later and after having
a chance to look through a 20", Patty announced that we needed
a BIG scope.
What you see here on the right is a picture taken of the finished
scope on Jan 1, 96. At f4.5x18", I call it the Photon Sucker ;^)
The scope is basically an Astrosystems design with liberties taken. The mirror is from John Hall's shop, Pegasus Optics.. John used to live down the road from me (about an hour) and I had an opportunity to participate in some of the mirror testing.. John does work beond reproach and my mirror turned out to be within 0.0588 lambda.
Cool things that I have done to the scope since completion (besides observing), include a 3-1/8" boxer fan on the bottom of the mirror box. It is set up for two speed operation with a center off switch.
Not so cool, are a pair of 150 ohm rectangular power resistors mounted on the back of the secondary. They are set up to go series/off/parallel for ~0.5/off/~2.0 watts of heat for dew removal..
